On Tuesday, Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen sat down with Gary Apple of SNY to discuss what exactly has been ailing Mets infielder Jed Lowrie. Lowrie has been seen around Mets camp with a large brace on his leg but seems to be participating in all of the infielder drills as normal.

Van Wagenen noted that the left knee has continued to give Lowrie problems. “A lot of the issues that he had last year were muscles on the left side of his body, on the lower half that were attributed to his knee” The brace that has been seen on Lowrie’s leg is giving him the ability to do his rehab and start on baseball activities.

Van Wagenen was unsure about the brace’s debut in a game setting. He noted that it is “too early to tell” and that “what we’ve seen so far is him being able to participate in all of our drills and activities here, which is a positive sign. And from there we’ll try to see how it translates into games”

Lowrie played in nine games last season after being on the IL for the majority of the season. Lowrie signed a 2 year, $20 million contract with the Mets in January of 2019.
