Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Milwaukee Brewers have acquired outfielder Christian Yelich from the Miami Marlins. Craig Mish of Sirius XM reported Tuesday that the Milwaukee Brewers had put together an offer for Yelich.
The Brewers announced that they are getting Yelich in exchange for outfielder Lewis Brinson, outfielder Monte Harrison, infielder Isan Diaz and RHP Jordan Yamamoto. Brinson was the #1 prospect in the Brewers’ organization.
Christian Yelich has been known to be available ever since the Marlins traded away Marcell Ozuna and Giancarlo Stanton in the hopes of trimming their payroll to around $90 million.
Afterwards, Yelich made it clear that he wants to play for another team, while J.T. Realmuto and the recently acquired Starlin Castro did the same.
Yelich hit .282/.369/.439 last season with 18 home runs and 81 RBIs to give him a 115 wRC+.
He played his first full season in center field in 2017 and recorded -6 defensive runs saved at the position, but has recorded 32 defensive runs saved in his four seasons playing left field.
Yelich is in the midst of a seven-year, $49.57 million contract with a team option for the 2022 season.
