Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the New York Mets are re-signing infielder Jose Reyes to a one-year deal.

The deal is for $2 million with the opportunity to make $500,000 more with incentives per Jon Heyman of Fan Rag Sports.

Reyes is signing with the Mets with the understanding that he will play a utility role according to Rosenthal. Ken also says the Mets will continue to look for a starting second baseman.

Reyes, 34, appeared in 145 games for the Amazin’s in 2017, hitting .246/.315/.413 with 15 homers and 58 RBI in 561 plate appearances. He played second, third, shortstop and even made his major league debut in outfield playing center and left. He graded out negatively at every defensive spot including -15 DRS at short, -5 DRS at second and -5 DRS at third.

The Mets hope a good second half from Reyes (.828 OPS) carries over into 2018. He also was strong against left-handed pitching with a .267/.343/.500 slash line in 135 plate appearances.

Reyes led the 2017 Mets in steals (24) and plate appearances (561).

Mets have a full 40-man roster currently and will have to make a move when the deal is official.
