Frankie Montas has signed with the Cincinnati Reds, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The contract is a one-year, $16 million deal, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Montas was another starter on the market that fit the bounce-back narrative. He finished sixth in the American League Cy Young race in 2021 after pitching to a 3.37 ERA and recorded a 3.18 ERA in the first half of 2022 with the Athletics.

The right-hander didn’t struggle until being traded to the Yankees. He pitched to a 6.35 ERA in eight starts with the Bombers and admitted to being injured before the trade. Montas then only pitched 1 1/3 innings in 2023 after having shoulder surgery before the season started.

Montas joins a young and talented Reds rotation, headlined by Hunter GreeneAndrew Abbott, and Nick Lodolo. If he can get healthy, Montas would be a significant boost to an up-and-coming Reds team that finished 82-80 in 2023.
