With the qualifying offer deadline, player option deadline, free agency starting and the deadline to protect players from the Rule 5 Draft all happening recently, the 40-man roster for all MLB teams may look quite a bit different than when the World Series ended.
The Mets have made some smaller moves, claiming a couple of relief arms and re-signing two lefties, but the bigger news came on Wednesday when they added center field prospect Nick Morabito to the 40-man roster and designated Frankie Montas for assignment.
Following all the recent action, the Mets’ 40-man roster is at exactly 40. So, whenever the Mets sign a player to a major league deal or trade for a player on the 40, they will have to remove a player to make it work.
With that in mind, let’s break down the Mets’ current 40-man roster:

Utility
While the Mets have multiple pitchers on the 40 who will certainly be injured to start the season, they can not move them to the 60-day injured list (thus saving a 40 spot) until the start of spring camp.
