Binghamton Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo was promoted to the Las Vegas 51’s this afternoon. The 13th overall pick from the 2011 draft would probably have been in Vegas already if not for a knee injury that cost him three weeks.
Nimmo was an Eastern League All-Star this year, it was his third All-Star game appearance in a row for the 22-year old. This year for the B’Mets he was hitting .279/.354/.368 with twelve doubles, three triples, two homeruns and 16 RBI in 68 games in Binghamton. He has struggled a bit since coming back from injury hitting only .260/.340/.313 over 34 games.
The Mets are hoping he can get back into his pre-injury form when he hit .333 /.387/.421 during the last 13 games before his DL stint. He has continued to play mostly center field this season but got his first taste of right field in pro ball playing 10 games their earl this season. He also played one game in left field where he spent a majority of his time (17 games) during the Arizona Fall League last year.
Baseball America ranked Nimmo #48 on their Midseason Top 50 prospects list after having him listed at #45 prior to the 2015 season. MLB Pipeline currently has him listed as the Mets #3 prospect behind Steven Matz and Michael Conforto.
