Mickey Callaway spoke with the press prior to Saturday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates and said that while Brandon Nimmo is progressing with baseball activities in Port St. Lucie, he is “still a ways away from game action.”
Nimmo, 26, has been on the 10-day IL with a bulging disk in his neck since May 22. Before he went down, he was hitting .200/.344/.323 with three home runs and 14 RBI to give himself a 83 OPS+.
However, it was reported by Tim Healey of Newsday that he had actually sustained the injury on April 16 against the Philadelphia Phillies. Prior to that incident, he was hitting .241/.388/.463 with three home runs and eight RBI on the year.
