Giant donut popcorn milkshake while viewing players’ game stats on the new giant video board in the outfield? That sounds like the start to a winning 2023 season for the Mets at Citi Field, where a lot of food choices and stadium features got upgraded for this year. This article will detail the many new menu items and stadium upgrades that fans can expect to see when they go to Citi Field this season.

New Food

Per Matt Monagan of MLB via Citi Field, some of the new vendors and new foods being offered by returning vendors will include:

  • Beyond Nightlife Sushi – They will be offering classical Sushi and a sushi Burrito.
  • Sunny’s All-American Kitchen – Featuring Sunny’s Nacho Skins, Sunny’s Famous Mac and Cheese and Sunny’s Campfire Parfaits.
  • Chef Marc Murphy’s Porchetta Sandwich Shop – Chef Marc’s sandwich shop will offer Italian Salsa Verde and Murphy’s Famous Chicken Burger.
  • Patsy’s Pizzeria – When in New York, you have to have Italian-styled pizza! Patsy’s pizzeria will offer original cheese pizza and a classical pepperoni pizza
  • Pat Lafrieda Meat Purveyors – Offering Sliced Rib eye, the home field double, and loaded fries. The home field double is two four-ounce Pat Lafrieda burgers with American cheese, caramelized onions and LaFrieda steak sauce.
  • Fuku – Fuku is one of the new partnerships coming to not only Citi Field in 2023, but both New York stadiums as they will be located at Yankee Stadium as well. They will be serving a Spicy Fried Chicken Sando – A crispy habanero brined chicken breast, with pickles, fuku mayo on a martin’s potato roll.
  • Shake Shack – They will be serving the shack burger and the Mets’ MVP shake – This will be a vanilla custard blended with chocolate, chocolate chip and vanilla cookies. It will be topped with cookie crumble and sprinkles
  • Sweet Chick – Sweet Chick will be featuring a sweet chili fried chicken sandwich and a waffle ice cream sandwich.
  • Pig Peach BBQ – Pig Beach BBQ will be offering a brisket sandwich and a classic, old fashion patty melt.
  • Jacob’s Pickles – Featuring a fried chicken sandwich and fried oreos with vanilla icing.

Matt Monagan of MLB went into deeper detail on the fried chicken sandwich. It will feature glazed donuts for the buns instead of bread, with fried chicken between the donuts. It will be served with a honey barbecue sauce. As Matt described in his tweet, it’s a “glazed donut dinner before the sundae donut dessert.”

  • Pop Up Bagels – Featuring delicious pizza bagels: A sliced everything bagel topped with their signature sauce and melted mozzarella cheese
  • Empanada Mama – Featuring a mac and cheese wheat flour empanada and a cheeseburger wheat flour empanada.
  • Emma’s Torch – Emma’s Torch is a Carroll Gardens-based eatery and a new vendor on the concourse. Offering tamarind barbecue sauce with buttermilk ranch dipping sauce, as well as a black-eyed pea hummus wrap with lettuce, cucumber, carrot, radish, and pickled chili.Not only does Emma’s Torch offer great food, but per Monagan, they also have a great mission: “to empower refugees through the art of culinary education.”
  • Takumi Taco – Takumi Tacos are Japanese-Mexican-inspired tacos that started out as a lone stand at Williamsburg’s Smorgasburg in 2012 and will now have a spot in the stadium. They will offer a spicy tuna taco and a chicken tinga taco. The chicken tinga taco is a slow braised chicken breast, tomato-chipotle sauce, cilantro and onion, cotija cheese and a crispy gyoza shell.
  • Sundae Donuts – A great stop for desserts! They will offer a cookies & blue ice cream with blue vanilla ice cream with chocolate donuts and oreo crumbles. They will also feature an oreo donut, which is a glazed ring donut, chocolate icing, tipped with oreos and blue and orange drizzle.

Sundae Donuts, per Matt Monagan of MLB, has one of the more highly anticipated donut milkshake – a milkshake, topped with a glazed donut, topped with popcorn.

  • Tang – Featuring a bulgogi rice cup. Exclusive to Citi Field, the bulgogi rice cup is a marinated beef sirloin with sauteed cabbage and salad over rice.
  • Fresco’s Grand Cantina – They will offer Ropa Vieja Quesadilla – a Cuban-style shredded beef with a four-cheese cantina blend in a crispy flour tortilla, served with chipotle mayo and sour cream. Grand Cantina will also serve churro nachos.
  • The Nourish Spot – Looking for a healthier spot? The Nourish Spot is for you. They feature the berry banana slammer, a strawberry, blueberry, banana, coconut cream, and almond milk.
  • Chiddy’s Cheese Steaks – Featuring Chiddy’s signature steak, onions, peppers, mushrooms, provolone and whiz.
  • Jacques Torres – Another dessert stop, Jacques Torres features Jacques’ famous chocolate chip cookies, milk chocolate cheerios and a Mr. Met black and white chocolate bar.
  • Cocktails – The perfect spot for adults 21 years of age and over to enjoy some adult beverages, including the Tullamore Drew Irish whiskey and Owen’s espresso cold brew. You can also get a cucumber lemonade.

New Features

  • Scoreboard – Citi Field also announced new features to the stadium in 2023. Many have seen the progress pictures and the before and after photos, but officially in action as of Thursday is the new Citi Field scoreboard/ video board. SNY has video of it active at the stadium this week.
  • Updated Banners – Per SNY, the Mets updated the playoff banners at Citi field during the offseason as well. These banners include the Mets winning the M.L. Wild Card in 2022.
  • Right Field Line – Though this feature is not done yet, the Mets are expanding the right field line. SNY posted a picture of what that area will look like once it is complete. 

2023 Giveaways

Some of the new giveaways in 2023, as always will feature bobbleheads (including Francisco Lindor, Howie Rose, and Timmy Trumpet), jerseys, hats, replica stadiums, sunglasses, a pullover, and more. Joe Pantorno of amNewYork posted a preview video of the giveaways fans can try to get this season.

Trumpet in the HOF

The New York Mets added items into their Mets Hall of Fame at Citi Field, including a Timmy Trumpet jersey and trumpet. Joe Pantorna of amNewYork shows fans around some of the new additions.

College Tickets 

The Mets also announced a new special ticket plan, the college plan. Per Joe Pantorno of MLB, This plan would be for college students and have a price point of $15 and can be all through text message, which most of the younger generations prefer these days. The goal is to bring back the younger generation that previously couldn’t afford to come out to games.

The Mets hit it out of the ballpark with the upgrades and new 2023 features. Fans have a lot to look forward to on and off the field at Citi Field this season.
