The Milwaukee Brewers have just lost to the Chicago Cubs and are now tied with the New York Mets for the National League Wild Card!

Just when you thought we were out… they dragged us back in…

What a thrill ride this is shaping up to be…

The Mets will now send Oliver Perez to the mound on three days rest and hope that he can deliver much in the same way that Johan Santana did this afternoon.

Earlier today, in the second-to-last regular-season game at Shea, Johan Santana stepped up on three days’ rest and breathed life into the Mets’ playoff hopes by completely mowing down the Marlins. The ace looked fired up as he shut down each inning, bringing his team closer in a must-win situation.

It was one of those memorable Shea Stadium games that will resonate with Mets fans for years and years to come. Santana delivered one of the gutsiest performances of the season and it was very reminiscent of the gem pitched by John Maine in the second to last day of the season last year.

Daniel Murphy had this to say about it…

“That’s the greatest performance I’ve ever seen on a baseball field. … He dominated from start to finish. That’s something that I’ll remember forever.”

So now it all comes down to Sunday. A Mets win and a Brewers loss and the Mets win the Wild Card.

A Mets win and a Brewers win means a one game showdown at Shea on Monday.

Those are the only two scenarios I am willing to consider right now as we try to keep a positive spin on everything here at Mets Merized Online.

Lets Go Mets!
