For the second week in a row, a member of the Binghamton Mets has been recognized by the Eastern League for their outstanding performance. Last week, pitcher Greg Peavey was named EL Pitcher of the Week. This time around, it’s shortstop Josh Rodriguez who has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the time period of April 16th – April 22nd. In a press release sent out by the EL today:
Binghamton Mets second baseman/shortstop Josh Rodriguez has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of April 16th-April 22nd. The 27-year old hit .500 (13-for-26) with two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, seven runs scored, five walks, two stolen bases and a .808 slugging percentage in seven games last week while helping lead the B-Mets to a 5-2 record. Rodriguez, who is a native of Houston, Texas, reached base in all seven games he played in last week and had four multiple hit games, including going 3-for-3 with a home run, two walks, three RBI and three runs scored in a 7-5 win over Portland on Friday.
The 6’0”, 185 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in hits (13), total bases (21) and OPS (1.388) last week. He was also among the weekly leaders in runs scored (7-tied 1st), slugging percentage (.808-2nd), walks (5-tied 2nd), on-base percentage (.581-3rd), batting
average (.500-tied 3rd), home runs (2-tied 3rd), extra -base hits (4-tied 3rd), RBI (7-tied 4th) and stolen bases (2-tied 5th). Josh, who has reached base in all but one of the 14 games he has played in with the B-Mets this season, was signed by the New York Mets as a free
agent on March 29, 2012. He was originally drafted by Cleveland in the second round of the 2006 draft out of Rice University.
Rodriguez was a large part of the B-Mets success this past week, something they hope to build on when they open up their next series at home tomorrow night at 6:35 against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
