Update 4:00 PM

Ronny Cedeno has been placed on the 15-day DL with a strained intercostal muscle.

To take Cedeno’s place on the roster, the Mets recalled RHP Jeremy Hefner from Triple-A Buffalo who had been put on the taxi squad earlier.

Cedeno, 29, is hitting .250 (3-12) in 10 games, three starts, this season.

Hefner, 26, is 2-1 with a 1.96 ERA (four earned runs/18.1 innings) in three games, all starts, for the Bisons. The 6-4, 215-pound native of Perkins, OK, beat Lehigh Valley, 4-1, in his last start on April 18 in Buffalo.

Jordany Valdespin technically is still on the taxi squad at the moment, allowing him to participate with the Mets for up to 24 hours without being activated.

There may be another move after the first game of the doubleheader. Batista could go to Buffalo and Spin could be activated after game one.

Also, closer Josh Edgin has been promoted from Double-A Binghamton to Triple-A Buffalo.

We’ll know more in a few minutes, but Adam Rubin is reporting that IF/OF Jordany Valdespin and RHP Jeremy Hefner are due to be at Citi Field as part of a taxi squad. They are allowed to be with the team for 24 hours without being activated.

Teams are now allowed to utilize a Taxi Squad particularly when doubleheaders after a suspended or cancelled game taxes a team’s roster.

Valdespin, 24, was hitting .276 with two homers and seven RBIs in 76 at-bats with Triple-A Buffalo and has been playing mostly center field this season
