As per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Houston Astros have traded for closer Roberto Osuna from the Toronto Blue Jays.
Osuna, 23, made his debut as a 20-year-old in 2015, pitching to a 2.58 earned-run average in 68 appearances (69.2 innings).
From 2016 through 2017, Osuna had 3.00 ERA in 138 innings pitched with a 146 ERA+.
On May 8 of this year, Osuna was charged with assault in Toronto and was subsequently suspended 75 games by MLB in June (retroactive to May 8). He will be eligible to be activated on August 4.
The Blue Jays will receive closer Ken Giles in return from Houston. Giles, 27, has a 4.99 ERA in 30.2 innings for the Astros this season. He was optioned to Triple-A Fresno earlier this month (July 11). The Blue Jays will also receive right-hander David Paulino and Houston’s No. 10 prospect, another righty, Hector Perez, in the deal.
