As per Jon Heyman of FanCred Sports, the Philadelphia Phillies, currently in first place in the National League East by 1.5 games over the Atlanta Braves, has been “one of the teams to check in” on New York Mets outfielder Jose Bautista.

Bautista, 37, was released by the Braves after just 12 games this season. He slashed .143/.250/.343 with two homers and 12 strikeouts in 35 at-bats for Atlanta.

Since coming to the Mets on May 22, the Dominican native has hit .233/.382/.421 with six homers, 24 runs batted in, and 12 doubles in 159 at-bats, playing mostly corner outfield for New York but also seeing some time at third base.

As noted by Heyman, the “Mets won’t trade him for nothing, as he’s been a plus for them”, but it would be intriguing to see what type of return the team could get for a formerly designated for assignment 37-year-old player.
