The Mets offense has certainly had its highs and lows so far this season and for the time being, it is struggling pretty badly. Curtis Granderson has not been his usual self and Neil Walker has cooled off since a great first few weeks. David Wright has been either league average or absolutely awful depending on who you ask. It’s been Asdrubal Cabrera, however, who has remained a “rock” as Zach Braziller writes in the New York Post.

Cabrera came through Sunday afternoon with a key hit single in the fourth inning that ended up being the difference in the game. His batting line sits at .278/.333/.373 on the season. That’s decidedly unspectacular. In fact, it’s essentially league average.

He has, however, also impressed with the glove, playing a surprisingly decent shortstop. On defense, he is able to cleanly field everything he can get to.

Overall Cabrera has performed in line with his career norms, not exactly the doomsday scenario some predicted for him. The 30 year-old still has it.

“I’m not that old yet, I feel really good,” he told The Post. “I love to play every day. I know someday I’m going to need a day off, but I feel good now.” Cabrera has been able to start in 42 of the Mets’ 43 games so far this year.

He hasn’t been spectacular by any means, but Cabrera’s been well worth the money so far.
