New York Mets outfielder, Michael Conforto, has begun to heat up once again at the plate. At a time when the offense has struggled, the young left-handed hitter is beginning to rake yet again.

After the team trailed early in the first, Conforto struck back quick with a bomb over the right field wall. It was his eighth home run of the season and his first game-tying homer of the season. Five of his eight homers this year have either tied the game or given the Mets the lead (four go-ahead, one game-tying).

“I feel good at the plate right now. That being said, I didn’t feel uncomfortable at the plate,” Conforto said. “I felt good through that rough stretch. It was just, I think, a matter of me going out of the zone and not really sticking to my approach. I think a lot of the swings were OK; the decisions were not very good.” (Newsday)

Over his last seven games he has produced a slash line of .300/.391/.800. Over that stretch he has hit three homers, with five RBI. His eight home runs this year have come in 40 games after hitting nine home runs in 56 games in 2015. He has quickly adjusted to adversity when he has faced it so far, showing the true comings of a budding star.

“As a baseball player, you have to be able to deal with failure,” Conforto said. “In order to get here, you have to have been able to come out of slumps, be able to adapt and change some things or go back to what was working.”

Manager, Terry Collins, knows he has a special player in Conforto. He has solidified himself this season as the Mets three-hole hitter, and has shown his knack of being able to come up in the clutch in numerous situations.

“He’s a special guy,’’ Collins said. “The game has them, they have those special personalities. They’re used to being on the spot, being put in big situations, and they come through. I think Michael is one of those kind of guys.”

Overall, Conforto is putting together a solid year in his first full season in the majors. He is currently hitting to a .284/.358/.553 slash line. He has accumulated 24 RBI to go with his eight homers. Conforto has begun to heat up again at the right time as the Mets go to DC for some revenge against the Nationals, starting tonight. In the meantime, enjoy this…
