After the Mets released Duaner Sanchez, it was assumed by many that he would be replaced by one of the many candidates in camp.

However, Marty Noble of mets.com gave an interesting answer in his mailbag today that leads me to believe Omar is not done shopping.

Minaya indicated Tuesday the club may look at available left-handed relievers now that the release of Sanchez has created a need. My sense of it was that the Mets needed one even before they ended their relationship with Sanchez. And Reyes now is with the Cardinals.

With both Joe Beimel and Will Ohman still available, can the timing now be right for Omar Minaya to make a play for one of them?

Ohman, 31, was 4-1 with a 3.68 ERA in 58 innings with the Braves last season after spending his first five seasons with the Cubs. He owns a 4.16 career ERA. Ohman has said he prefers to sign with the Phillies but they may be tapped out. He’s looking for about $3.5 million a year.

Beimel, 31, had a solid season last year after posting a 2.02 ERA in 71 games. During the 2007 season, Beimel set a record for the Dodgers by making 83 appearances, the most by a left-handed pitcher in the Dodgers history. According to the Denver Post, he’s still seeking a deal in the $2.5 million range.

You think there’s any chance this could get done.
