aramis ramirez

Beat reporter Matt Ehalt of the Bergen Record caught up with third baseman Aramis Ramirez who says he’s open to being traded, but is not aware of anything brewing between the Mets and Brewers.

“As far as I know there is nothing going on right now with me and the Mets. Basically just rumors at this point.”

Ramirez, who has approximately $7 million dollars remaining on his contract, is having the worst season of his career, slashing at .215/.257/.397 in 222 plate appearances with eight home runs and 26 RBI.

The three-time All Star turned 37 years old today, and while his best days are clearly behind him, may have enough left in the tank to help the Mets.

Additionally, he shouldn’t cost the Mets much in terms of a return, as long as they pick up his remaining salary.

Ramirez does not have a no-trade clause, but prefers to get traded to a contender.

“If I get traded it’s going to be to a team that’s in a pennant race and that’s what I want,” Ramirez said.

There’s been various conflicting reports about the Mets’ interest in Ramirez.
