Danny Knobbler of CBSSports.com is reporting via Twitter that the Angels are “very likely” to trade one of their outfielders now that Hamilton is in the fold. Here is Knobbler’s Tweet below.
The Angels signing of Hamilton leaves them with a surplus of outfielders in Trout, Bourjos, Morales and Trumbo. That is five potential starters for just four spots if you include the DH spot. The Angels still would like to add another front-line starting pitcher due to the injury concerns around C.J. Wilson (bone spurs) and the newly acquired Tommy Hanson (shoulder).
Knobbler suggests that Bourjos and Trumbo are the most likely candidates to be moved, and both players probably have more value that Kendrys Morales at this point. Although reports yesterday suggested that the Mets would not be interested in Trumbo.
Can someone explain to me why the Mets would not be interested in a 26-year old right handed power hitter who slugged 29 home runs in 2011 and 32 in 2012? He plays corner outfield which is what the Mets need, and he is not arbitration eligible until 2014, and will be under the teams control until the end of 2016. Bourjos is 25 years old and falls under the same window as Trumbo regarding team control.
