Alonso, the Mets’ longtime power hitter, rebounded with an elite 2025 campaign, hitting .272/.347/.524 with 38 home runs and 126 RBIs. His run production ranked second in the National League behind Kyle Schwarber and he placed fourth in homers. It marked his fifth straight season surpassing the 30-homer mark.
In his first year in Queens, Soto delivered everything the Mets hoped for. After a slow start, the 26-year-old found his rhythm, finishing with a .263/.396/.525 line and a career-best 43 home runs. He also swiped 38 bases under first base coach Antoan Richardson.

The duo formed the centerpiece of an offense that also featured Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo. While Soto’s all-around excellence may give him an edge in the voting, Alonso’s durability and run production make him a strong contender as well.
Their toughest competition will come from Schwarber and Shohei Ohtani, both of whom delivered historic power seasons. Ohtani launched 55 home runs with a 1.014 OPS, while Schwarber’s NL-best 56 homers and 132 RBIs led to a Phillies division title.
The Hank Aaron Award, established to honor the best offensive player in each league, is decided by a combination of fan votes and a panel of Hall of Famers. Winners will be announced Nov. 13 during the MLB Awards in Las Vegas.
