Lefty reliever Alex Torres has officially ended his tenure with the New York Mets after he elected free agency on Friday rather than remain with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Torres, you may recall, was acquired from the San Diego Padres on the eve of the regular season for minor league right-handers Cory Mazzoni and Brad Wieck.

His season was fraught with disappointment and frustration, producing a 5.68 FIP and a 1.525 WHIP in 39 appearances before he was mercifully designated for assignment after the Mets acquired Eric O’Flaherty.

Torres, 27, was betrayed by a lack of command and control, leading to a 6.82 walk rate n 34 1/3 innings pitched.

I’ll miss the hat…
