It appears that fate has once again dealt Alex Rodriguez a fatal blow in his lifelong quest to hook up with the New York Mets.

A-Rod and his fiancé pop star Jennifer Lopez revealed they were done trying to acquire the Mets after a hard-fought bidding war.

“Alex and I are so disappointed,” Lopez posted Saturday on her Instagram.

“We worked so hard the past 6 months with the dream of becoming the first minority couple and the first woman owner to buy her father’s favorite Major League Baseball team with her own hard earned money. We still haven’t given up!! #NY4ever”

J Lo and A-Rod had planned to invest $300 million of their own funds to purchase the Mets, according to the New York Post.

However, the power couple had their hopes dashed after hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen swooped in with a staggering offer believed to be in the range of $2.6 billion dollars as reported in the New York Times.

Rodriguez has long expressed his desire to own the New York Mets. He often says that one of his biggest regrets as a player was not playing for the Amazins and he wishes he had ignored the advice of his agent Scott Boras.

“Growing up in Miami, I was a huge Mets fan,” Rodriguez said during a Sunday Night Baseball telecast. “Keith Hernandez was my favorite player.”

“I thought I would make great concessions to go play for the Mets. I thought it would’ve been a great story for baseball and a great story for me to play for the team I grew up watching.”

With the news that Cohen is close to acquiring the team, it appears that A-Rod has struck out again in his quest to become a New York Met.
