You may remember a few days ago I posted about Adam Rubin who was told by a source that Mets may not sign another outfielder. (see below)
Today, Rubin gets it straight from Mets GM Sandy Alderson who told him:
It’s conceivable we’ll go with what we have, but we’re still looking. I wouldn’t say that we’re satisfied with what we have. But if we don’t find what we think is a meaningful upgrade, then it’s possible we’ll go with what we have.
I still think there are some players out there, including Scott Hairston, who might be available as free agents. A trade is always a possibility, but I wouldn’t predict that. Other than that, I can’t speculate what will happen. We’re not unhappy with the position we’re in right now, which is to say: still looking, with viable possibilities remaining.
Alderson also admitted to Adam Rubin that the team is not in a position to trade prospects for an outfielder like Justin Upton.

Yesterday, when I reported the Mets signed Andrew Brown to a minor league deal, I was only speculating when I concluded:
“It looks like the Mets will just go with a patchwork solution to their outfield with guys like Collin Cowgill and now Brown to go with Duda, Baxter, Nieuwenhuis and Valdespin.”
Apparently I wasn’t far from the mark. Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports:
Although Scott Hairston remains a free agent, a team insider said it’s conceivable the Mets actually will not add an outfielder on a major league contract this offseason.
Lucas Duda appears penciled in as the primary left fielder. As for center field and right field, that may very well be a pair of platoons. The lefty hitters would be Kirk Nieuwenhuis in center field and Mike Baxter in right field.
A team insider said Justin Turner actually should get strong consideration as a platoon outfielder too, despite no experience out there.
Justin Turner in the outfield? Yikes.
Rubin says the righty bats in the outfield are most likely newly acquired Collin Cowgirl and Andrew Brown who signed minor league deals and received spring invites.
It’s now appearing that the Mets offseason is grinding to a halt and that the waiting game is over.
