New York Mets outfielder Albert Almora Jr left Tuesday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles in the top of the eighth inning after a hard collision with the center field fence.

Almora went sprinting full speed into the fence in pursuit of a fly ball in the gap and went down hard. The outfielder caught the ball for a brief second, but it popped out of his glove on impact, and Austin Hays ended up at third with a triple.

After taking a few moments to collect himself on the ground, Almora was able to walk off the field with head athletic trainer Brian Chicklo. He left the field to a standing ovation from Mets fans for the effort, and as he was walking off he appeared to motion to fans that he was okay.

Kevin Pillar shifted over left field to Almora’s spot in center, and Dominic Smith entered the game to take over in left. With Jeff McNeil already leaving tonight’s game early, the Mets depth is starting to run extremely thin.

If Almora does indeed require a trip to the injured list, we could see speedy youngster Khalil Lee up at the big league level soon. Lee is the last position player on the Mets 40-Man roster not on the active roster or IL, he has posted a .791 OPS so far this season with Triple-A Syracuse.

We’ll keep you updated when we hear more from Mets manager Luis Rojas following tonight’s game.
