Mets’ outfielder Brandon Nimmo appeared in just 69 games last year after dealing with a bulging disk in his neck that he sustained early in the season.

It was disappointing for Nimmo to say the least, after coming off a breakout 2018 campaign in which he put up 4.5 fWAR in 141 games.

There were some positives, which included him finishing the season on a high note, hitting .261/.430/.565 in the final month of the season.

Despite dealing with a cardiac issue this spring, Nimmo is back on the field and will look to get back to 2018 form when he was one of the team’s most productive hitters.

So far this spring, Nimmo has gone 10-for-23 with three doubles and one triple. When Nimmo is healthy, this is the kind of offensive output the team should expect and be excited about.

Last month, Nimmo reflected on his lost 2019 season and bulging disk, saying while it’s something he will likely have to deal with his whole career, he knows he can stay on the field.

“The goal is to be ready for every game that they call my number and I definitely can play 150 games and be a center fielder,” Nimmo said to Gary Apple of SNY last month. “But whenever they call my number, my goal this season is to be available.”

“I’m going to be trying to be ready and be playing center field,” the 26-year-old added. “That’s where they have me at now and working, but I can definitely do that and I feel like I’m more than capable.”

While the Mets don’t have the strongest outfield alignment defensively, having Nimmo out there everyday in combination with Michael Conforto and one of Yoenis Cespedes and J.D. Davis gives them a chance to trot out one of the strongest lineups in the game each day.

Having Nimmo back and healthy will give the Mets a huge boost overall, especially if he can come close to repeating his robust 2018 campaign.
