Francisco Lindor began the game with a leadoff home run, but beyond that, the bats never really got it going against Freddy Peralta, and Sean Manaea had another lackluster start. Former Met Trevor Williams has inked a major league deal with the Texas Rangers, the team announced.
It’s official: Arte Moreno has sold the Angels to Rams owner Stan Kroenke, the LA Times‘ Bill Shaikin confirmed. Shaikin later reported the sale was for a major league record price, higher than the Padres’ $3.9 billion sale.
The Dodgers have activated both Will Smith and Dalton Rushing from the injured list, in addition to starter Justin Wrobleski. As corresponding moves, Los Angeles optioned Alek Thomas to Triple-A Oklahoma and designated catcher Ben Rortvedt for assignment.
According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Padres also placed a waiver claim out on Luis Robert Jr., but the Orioles were higher on the waiver list. The new team owners would have been on the hook for $5 million.
Mike Vorkunov of the New York Times reports that prosecutors say Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz tried to conceal their pitch-rigging scheme through coded language, undisclosed payments and allegedly false or incomplete information. Both players have pleaded not guilty, and their federal trial is coming up.

On this day in 1986, the Mets fell 4-3 to the Giants at Shea Stadium, dropping their record to 88-44. Dwight Gooden struck out 10 over seven innings, but a three-run homer from Bob Brenly in the sixth put San Francisco ahead 4-0. New York rallied with two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth, but Mookie Wilson grounded into a bases-loaded double play to end the eighth, and the Mets were unable to complete a ninth-inning comeback attempt.
