On Friday, Juan Soto told the media that he does not anticipate needing a rehab assignment before joining the Mets again. Soto said that he feels just about ready to return, hinting that he could be back in the Mets’ lineup before too long. When healthy, Soto has played at an MVP level this year, owning 21 home runs and a .947 OPS in just 84 games.

The Mets (60-74) lost 3-1 to the Astros (57-61) Friday night. Christian Scott struggled with five walks in 5 1/3 innings, while Hunter Brown and the Houston bullpen shut the Mets offense down. Carson Benge drove in the team’s only run.
Jorge Polanco underwent successful surgery on his injured ankle earlier this week. Andy Green did not commit, however, to Polanco being ready for spring training next season.

Major League Baseball suspended a prized prospect from the Dominican Republic for falsifying his age and engaging in an elaborate age-fraud plot that included a fake identity, a fake death, and a fake tombstone. The prospect was in line to sign a $2.8 million pre-arb deal.
The Hillsborough County Commission voted 5-2 to approve a deal for a new stadium for the Rays. This was the second of two approvals needed to move forward. The new stadium is expected to open in 2029.
Worcester Red Sox manager Iggy Suarez said that Roman Anthony and Trevor Story will continue their rehab and play for the Triple-A squad on Saturday. Francys Romero later made a conflicting report that Anthony and Story had completed their rehab and would be activated by the Red Sox on Saturday or Sunday.
Several Braves pitchers received negative injury news. Hurston Waldrep will undergo Tommy John surgery while Spencer Schwellenbach will repair the same elbow fracture he suffered last year. Additionally, Spencer Strider‘s status for the rest of the year is up in the air and the assumption is he does not return.
Trey Mancini is signing a one-day contract with the Orioles to officially retire as a member of the team. Mancini’s best years of his career came with Baltimore, where he was a fan favorite. The Orioles will celebrate him on September 19, when fans attending the game can get a limited edition “F16HT” hat.
The Red Sox signed catcher and former Met Tomás Nido to a minor league deal. Nido has recorded a .685 OPS in 43 games with the Tigers’ Triple-A team this season.
