It was a rough night in the win column for the farm, but Marco Vargas continues his torrid 10-game stretch this month; Nick Morabito has been heating up over the last week, and Elian Peña recorded his first hit as a Cyclone.

Triple-A

Nick Morabito has really picked it up over the last week. Over his last six games, he is batting .300 (7-21), with a homer and four RBIs. MJ Melendez hit his fifth home run in the month of August. Émilien Pitre played in his second game for Syracuse since his call-up but failed to record a hit.

Jonathan Santucci (No. 2 prospect) made his fourth start for Syracuse and pitched well through four innings, but it all came crashing down in the fifth as he was responsible for five of the six runs allowed in the inning. He has a 7.71 ERA at the Triple-A level.

Zach Franklin and Matt Seelinger turned in four combined scoreless innings in relief; Franklin has allowed just one run over his last five appearances.

Double-A

Binghamton (51-65) 10, Altoona (49-66) 6

The Rumble Ponies have been a powerhouse this month. They continued their winning ways on Wednesday thanks to big days from Corey Collins, Chris Suero and Marco Vargas.

Vargas picked up three hits, including a home run, one of three for Binghamton in this game. Since returning to Binghamton on Aug. 4, Vargas is slashing .409/.413/.614 with three homers and 13 RBIs. Corey Collins entered Wednesday 0-for his last 14; a huge night at the plate, including a home run, may have broken the spell. Chris Suero has heated up in the month of August, batting .275 with three homers.

Dakota Hawkins got the start for Binghamton and pitched three scoreless innings. Stratton has been incredible for Binghamton through 19 appearances, lowering his ERA to 1.78. This month he has pitched in six games and has yet to allow a run.

High-A

Asheville (40-74) 7, Brooklyn (50-64) 6

Elian Peña notched his first hit and RBI with Brooklyn in his second game. John Smith III made his first appearance and delivered three hits. After being drafted in the 19th round this year, Smith has had a strong first month as a pro, batting .289 between Single-A and High-A.

Calvin Ziegler continued his strong August with another scoreless inning; through four appearances, he has yet to allow a run.

Lakeland (55-58) 8, St. Lucie (50-65) 1

It was a quiet day for the bats down in St. Lucie on Wednesday. Jeremy Rodriguez has continued to hit since returning to the Mets lineup; he’s now 4-for-6 over the last two games.

Ethan Lanthier made his ninth start for St. Lucie and got hit hard. Ernesto Mercedes has been lights-out as of late. This month, he has a 1.17 ERA and has not allowed an earned run in his last five appearances.
