Bo Bichette went 5-for-5 with two doubles, Luis Robert Jr. and Francisco Alvarez homered and Sean Manaea struck out a season-high 11 in an 11-1 victory Sunday over the Pirates. James Villani has more in a recap that is more magical than miserable here.
The Mets (52-67) have won five of six. (For the hopelessly optimistic, New York is 11 games back of the final playoff spot with 43 games to go.)
“We have a lot of baseball in front of us,” Bichette said. “And I think it’s in everybody’s interest and desire to play hard, win games, find the best version of themselves, and finish strong.”
New York heads to Atlanta Monday, where Christian Scott (3-3, 3.15 ERA) will face RHP Bryce Elder (8-6, 3.69 ERA) at 7:15 p.m. ET on SNY.

First baseman Billy Amick homered for the third straight game for Double-A Binghamton on Sunday. Since coming over with Bruin Agbayani from the Twins organization in the A.J. Minter trade, Amick is 8-for-24 with five homers and 13 RBIs in seven games. He has 28 homers combined for Binghamton and Double-A Wichita this year.
Outfielder Aidan Smith (Freddy Peralta trade) homered for High-A Brooklyn, his fourth in six games since joining the Cyclones. The 22-year-old hit 10 homers in 49 games at High-A Bowling Green this season.
Xzavion Curry was optioned to Triple-A after Saturday’s game. RHP Jack Weisenburger was brought up and made his MLB debut in relief of Manaea. The 28-year-old pitched two scoreless innings and struck out two to the delight of his family, who were among the 22,753 on hand.

Atlanta’s Chris Sale was ejected before Sunday’s game with the Yankees for arguing with an umpire about a balk from the day before.
Miami’s Kyle Stowers left the game Sunday with left hamstring pain after appearing to get hurt while getting out of the batter’s box on a two-run single. He will undergo further evaluation.
The Rays placed RHP Griffin Jax on the 15-day injured list with right elbow pain.
