Good morning, Mets fans!
It’s trade deadline day and yesterday the Mets made the trade many had been anticipating with sending right-handed pitcher Freddy Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for infielder Emilien Pitres, outfielder Aidan Smith and right-handed pitcher Gary Gill Hill.
Peralta struggled in the just 22 games he pitched in New York. He went 5-9 with a 4.99 ERA during his Mets tenure. Over the course of 113 2/3 innings he gave up 63 earned runs on 120 hits (17 home runs). He gave up 48 walks, and struck out 113. He will now finish the season in Tampa Bay.
Teams have until 6:00 p.m. ET Monday evening to make a move before the trade deadline comes to a close.
With emotions heightened and a lot of uncertainties surrounding baseball, the Mets dropped the final game of the series to the Marlins 2-0, losing three in a row to Miami. Monday is a day off for the Mets as the trade deadline comes to a close, and then the Mets will hit the road for a nine-game trip that begins with three games in Cleveland against the Guardians starting Tuesday. They are now 19 games under .500 on the year.

Along with dealing Peralta to the Rays, the Mets on Sunday also announced the following roster transactions:
- Right-handed pitcher Robert Stock and right-handed pitcher Bryce Conley were selected to the Major League roster.
- Right-handed pitcher Kevin Herget was designated for assignment.
- Right-handed pitcher Jonathan Pintaro was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse following Saturday’s game against the Marlins.
- Outfielder MJ Melendez was designated for assignment, brining his short tenure with the Mets to a close as well.
The Mets also announced that they claimed catcher Shawn Ross off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates and designated right-handed pitcher Joey Gerber for assignment.
According to Joel Sherman of The New York Post, the Mets have now also had Kodai Senga mentioned in trade talks.
Sherman also noted Clay Holmes’ final line in his rehab start for High-A Brooklyn. Holmes, who has also been discussed in trade talks, threw 5 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits, three runs, two earned runs and no walks while striking out three with 73 pitches. Sources at the stadium noted his sinker touched 93 mph.

Per Robert Murray of FanSided, the Toronto Blue Jays are acquiring right-handed pitcher Jameson Taillon from the Chicago Cubs.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the New York Yankees are acquiring first baseman and lefty batter Luis Garcia Jr. from the Washington Nationals. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com elaborated and reported that the Nationals are receiving right-handed pitcher Ben Grable, right-handed pitcher Yovanny Cruz, right-handed pitcher Jack Cebert and right-handed pitcher Jake Bird from the Yankees for Garcia.
The Chicago White Sox on Sunday announced that they optioned right-handed pitcher Duncan Davitt to Triple-A Charlotte following their game against the Rays.
Per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, the Rays are designating Craig Kimbrel, the former Mets pitcher, for assignment.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Chicago Cubs are acquiring right-handed pitcher Kevin Gausman from the Toronto Blue Jays. Mitch Bannon of The Athletic expanded on the trade and noted that outfielder Brett Bateman and infielder Ty Southisene are headed to Toronto in exchange for Gausman.
Per Talkin’ Baseball, Tarik Skubal arrived in Los Angeles on Sunday following being traded from the Tigers and greeted his new manager Dave Roberts and teammates in the dugout.
Robert Murray of FanSided has also reported that the Atlanta Braves are acquiring right-handed pitcher Tyler Mahle in a trade with the San Francisco Giants. In return, the Giants are receiving Anthony Molina.
