Yankees Acquire García Jr. From Nationals
The Yankees have acquired infielder Luis García Jr. from the Nationals. García has enjoyed a breakout season for Washington, batting .260/.313/.560 with a career-high 23 homers and 76 RBIs. He currently leads the NL in slugging percentage and is sporting a career-best 136 OPS+. Originally a middle infielder, García has exclusively played first base this season.
In return, the Nationals are receiving four players, all of whom are right-handed pitchers – Jake Bird, Yovanny Cruz, Jack Cebert and Ben Grable. Cebert was the Yankees’ No. 14 prospect by MLB Pipeline, while Grable was ranked as their No. 25 prospect. Baseball America ranked Cebert at No. 11 and Grable at No. 19. Cruz and Bird have both split time between Triple-A and the majors this season.
