Per Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Pirates are interested in trading for Mets reliever Huascar Brazobán. While the Pirates have already traded for Camilo Doval, they likely need to acquire multiple relievers, especially leverage ones. While Doval has pitched in leverage spots in the past, he has only four holds and one save in 2026, with four blown saves to go with his 4.54 ERA and 1.41 WHIP.

Brazobán has eight holds to two blown saves with a 2.61 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. He is also under cheap team control through 2029 and has one remaining option. He is only owed $300,000 through the remainder of the 2026 season. He is running a 25.3% whiff rate and 31.9% chase rate with his sinker continues to dominate opponents. He can be used as a leverage arm, an opener, a stopper, or a pitcher who goes multiple innings.
While he could benefit the Mets 2027 bullpen, he is in his age 36 season and this may be the best time to sell high on Brazobán.
The Pirates have also shown interest in Luke Weaver, though Weaver would likely cost substantially more in a trade than Brazobán due to his ability to be a closer and his 2026 dominance. The Mets are rumored per Michael Marino to be asking for infielder Murf Gray and shortstop Sammy Saftura. Gray was on Baseball Prospectus’s Midseason Top 50 Just Missed article and would instantly be the Mets best prospect by a large margin.
