The MLB draft is this Saturday, July 11!
We previously broke down the typical archetype that Kris Gross and David Stearns typically draft: an athletic college bat that is an up-the-middle defender, with plus plate discipline, plus pitch recognition, a plus hit tool, and can run well.
As of our article on July 2, the projected players drafted up to that date were:
- College Hitter – Aiden Robbins, OF (6)
- College Pitcher – Tegan Kuhns, RHP (3)
- High School Pitcher – Brody Bumila, LHP (2)
- College Hitter – Daniel Jackson, C/OF (2)
- College Pitcher – Cade Townsend, RHP
- College Pitcher – Mason Edwards, LHP
- High School Pitcher – Carson Boleman, LHP
- College Hitter – Ryder Helfrick, C
- High School Pitcher – Jared Grindlinger, LHP
- College Hitter – Caden Sorrell, OF
- High School Hitter – Will Brick, C
- High School Hitter/Pitcher – Archer Horn, SS/RHP
- College Hitter – AJ Gracia, OF
- High School Hitter – Bo Lowrance, 3B
- High School Hitter – Tyler Spangler, SS
- High School Hitter – Aiden Ruiz, SS
Mock Drafts Since July 2
MLB.com
Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com, in his most recent mock draft, projects the Mets to take third baseman Bo Lowrance as a fit. Lowrance is a slugging high school third baseman who has a good knowledge of the zone and 30 home run potential. His above-average arm should help him stick at third base, and he is a very polished hitter.
- Lowrance ranks 38 on Pipeline, 45 on Baseball America and is unranked on Baseball Prospectus.
ESPN
Kiley McDaniel of ESPN listed three potential players the Mets could take with their first pick: Aiden Robbins, Will Brick, and Bo Lowrance.
Aiden Robbins has been mocked continually to the Mets because of his pitch recognition and athleticism. There are some hit tool collapse concerns, and he may be destined for a corner outfield spot, but he has the upside to be a player that is good at every facet of the game.
- Robbins ranks 29 on Pipeline, 24 on Baseball America and is unranked on Baseball Prospectus.
Will Brick is a high school catcher who has solid raw power and projects to be a plus defensive catcher. He has taken reps at the shortstop position, but profiles as a major league catcher. He is a gap-to-gap hitter with a good arm and plus pop times.
- Brick ranks 46 on Pipeline, 62 on Baseball America and is unranked on Baseball Prospectus.
Baseball America
Carlos Collazo in Baseball America‘s mock draft projects Aiden Robbins to the Mets.
Baseball America in their staff draft mocked college shortstop Justin Lebron to the Mets. Lebron is a high-upside athletic player who has real power, speed, and defense, but also real hit tool concerns. He struggled against fastballs in 2026 but had a good track record before the most recent season. He also had his worst defensive season despite being a plus defender before 2026. He has top ten pick upside but an incredibly volatile skill set that could have him fall further in the draft.
- Lebron ranks 9 on Pipeline, 19 on Baseball America and 25 on Baseball Prospectus.
Bleacher Report
Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report once again projects the Mets to take high school left-handed pitcher Brody Bumila with their first pick of the draft. He returned from internal brace surgery strong in 2026 and has a fastball that has touched 102 miles per hour. He is raw and athletic with upside.
Unfortunately, after this mock draft was written, Bumila had another elbow injury and may require Tommy John surgery.
- Bumila ranks 17 on Pipeline, 34 on Baseball America and 14 on Baseball Prospectus.
In a second mock draft this week, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report projects the Mets to take catcher/third baseman/shortstop Cole Prosek with their first pick. Prosek is a polished high school hitter who has good bat speed but defensive limitations. He could develop as a catcher or on one of the infield spots, though he is unlikely able to play shortstop in pro ball.
- Prosek ranks 27 on Pipeline, 39 on Baseball America and is unranked on Baseball Prospectus.
The Athletic
Keith Law of the Athletic projects the Mets to select college outfielder Logan Hughes with their first pick. He does not have any true carrying tools and his biggest concern is that he has already traded some contact for power, but the power is still not elite. He is a patient hitter with good barrel control and a good knowledge of the strike zone. He is a below-average runner who will need to play in a corner.
- Hughes ranks 42 on Pipeline, 44 on Baseball America and 20 on Baseball Prospectus.
USA Today
Gabe Lacques of USA Today projects the Mets to take left-handed college pitcher Tegan Kuhns with their first pick. Kuhns has a good fastball but will need to strengthen his secondaries and command. He has the arsenal to be a starter, but his issues maintaining velocity throughout starts could limit him to the bullpen.
- Kuhns ranks 25 on Pipeline, 22 on Baseball America and 11 on Baseball Prospectus.
Fansided
Mark Powell of Fansided projects the Mets to take right-handed college pitcher Cade Townsend with their first pick. Townsend has touched 97 miles per hour on his fastball and has a good balance of secondaries. He has improved his control but does have some medical concerns.
- Townsend ranks 35 on Pipeline, 29 on Baseball America and is unranked on Baseball Prospectus.
Recap
Aiden Robbins and Archer Horn seem to be the players closest to the type Stearns and Gross have gravitated to over the years. It will be interesting to see if they go against type and draft a prep bat or a pitcher with their first pick. As we get closer to the draft, it will also be interesting to monitor if there is more uniformity with these mock drafts.
