During the Mets’ 19-5 rout of the Washington Nationals, outfielder Brandon Nimmo tied Carlos Delgado’s franchise record with nine RBIs in a single game, continuing his surge at the plate for New York. He finished the day 4-for-6 with four hits, two home runs (one grand slam), four runs scored and nine RBIs.

“Really proud of the guys for flushing yesterday, coming back today and going out there and working on all sides of the ball,” Nimmo told reporters following the win. “It was really fun to play today.”

“These days don’t come very often — it’s taken me nine years,” he told SNY. “Like you said, that’s really cool, tie a franchise record. You just enjoy days like this. One of the reasons that you play baseball is that it can be so frustrating at some times but so rewarding at others. … Really special day, really special moment.”

After a rough open to the 2025 season, Nimmo has been hot at the plate recently and showing no signs of slowing down after Monday’s dominant victory over the division rivals.

Nimmo had been mired in a slump entering Monday, batting just .149/.180/.149 with a -13 wRC+ over his previous 12 games. He had gone 50 plate appearances without registering an extra-base hit, despite making solid contact.

In Sunday’s loss, he finished 0-for-4 at the plate but squared up four hard-hit balls (his hardest was a 107.4 mph lineout), a sign that better results might be on the horizon.

According to Baseball Savant, Nimmo’s hard-hit percentage ranks in the 97th percentile (58.2% rate) of all major league hitters heading into Tuesday’s contest. In addition, he ranks in the 88th percentile in average exit velocity on the season (92.7 mph).

Only Pete Alonso ranks higher in hard-hit percentage on the Mets in 2025 (98th percentile) and Alonso and Juan Soto rank higher in average exit velocity (Alonso, 98th percentile, Soto, 92nd percentile).

Following Monday’s standout performance, Nimmo owns a .218/.261/.418/.679 line on the season.

Nimmo’s milestone showing came at a moment when New York needed a lift the most, following a rough 8-7 loss on Sunday.
