Good morning, Mets fans!

On Sunday the Mets earned their first sweep of 2025, beating the Blue Jays 2-1 as Pete Alonso and the pitching staff stayed scorching hot.

The Mets won 5-0 on Friday to kick off the series. On Saturday night Francisco Lindor hit a walk-off sac fly to give the Amazin’ a 3-2 victory. Then, the squad finished the sweep in another one-run game on Sunday.

This series showcased the Mets’ continued dominance on the bump thus far in 2025. Through nine games, the Mets have the best team ERA in MLB, an astonishing 1.91 ERA.

The Mets are now second in the NL East with their 6-3 record, only one game back of the 7-2 Phillies, who were able to win a three-game series against the Dodgers this weekend.

The Marlins will travel to Citi Field to start a three-game series on Monday against the Mets.

Star Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara was scheduled to start against the Braves on Sunday, but that game was rained out. However, according to Craig Mish of Sports Grid, Alcantara will not be starting against the Mets on Monday, as he is expected to go on the paternity list. Congratulations to Sandy and his wife who are expecting a baby girl!

Kodai Senga will get the start for the Mets on Monday evening with first pitch at 7:10 p.m.

Hopefully, many of you reading this were able to go to one of the Mets’ home games this weekend and experience the lively Citi Field atmosphere we have all missed so much. According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the Mets sold 121,771 tickets to their season-opening series.

That number is about 29% higher than the Mets’ first home series last year. Additionally, it is around 21% bettter than their best-selling three-game series at any point last season. Hopefully those numbers stay high, the wins keep coming and we can all continue to sing “My Girl” together.

There was some controversy in Pittsburgh over the weekend as fans noticed the team had replaced a tribute to Roberto Clemente with an advertisement on the padding of their right field wall.

In a statment on Sunday, Roberto Clemente Jr. said, “Yesterday, I was shocked to learn that the Clemente 21 sign- a tribute to my father on the right field wall at PNC Park in Pittsburgh- had been removed and replaced by an advertisement. This change was made without any communication or consultation with our family.”

However, the Pirates responded later on Sunday stating that they will be adding the No. 21 logo back to the right field wall.

Pirates President Travis Williams said in a statement, “When we added the advertisement to the pad, it was an oversight not to keep the No. 21 logo. This was ultimately on me, not anyone else in the organization. It was an honest mistake.”

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred touched on several hot topic in an interview posted by the New York times on Sunday.

Manfred said he hopes to bring the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) challenge system to MLB soon. The league experimented with the technology during spring training. Manfred said the technology could arrive in big league games as soon as 2026, but could be later due to collective bargaining with the MLBPA.

When asked about torpedo bats, Manfred mentioned that they are “absolutely good for baseball.” He mentioned how players have been manipulating with the sweet spot of the bat for many years now.

The bats are well within the rules and regulations, so there will not be any changes to prohibit their use. Manfred also touched on potential MLB expansion, television blackouts, and the spending disparity between teams.

The Brewers placed Nestor Cortes on the 15-day IL with left elbow flexor strain on Sunday. The ream recalled LHP Grant Wolfram in a corresponding move.

According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell is landing on the IL with left shoulder inflammation.

Thomas Harding of MLB.com reported that the Rockies are calling up OF prospect Zac Veen to the majors and optioning OF Jordan Beck to Triple-A. Veen is the Rockies’ eighth-ranked prospect.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Andy Martino of SNY reports that the Yankees are re-signing Adam Ottavino. The Yankees signed Ottavino to a one-year deal on April 1, where he then pitched before being DFA’d on April 4. Now, the veteran is heading back to the Bronx Bombers.

1984: Dwight Gooden made his MLB debut in the Astrodome pitching against the Astros. At just 19 years old, Doc was the second youngest pitcher to ever start a game for the Mets. Doc won that game, pitching five innings with five strikeouts. He only allowed one run on three hits and two walks.

This was the beginning of Dr K.’s phenomenal rookie campaign, where he won Rookie of the Year and finished second in National League MVP Voting. Doc led the major leagues with 276 strikeouts, a 1.073 WHIP, and an 11.4 K/9. Not to mention his 2.60 ERA and NL leading 5.5 WAR.
