Brandon Nimmo got a gel injection to lubricate his sore right knee, according to Carlos Mendoza.

Nimmo will be shut down from baseball activities for 48-72 hours, and is still being planned to be ready for Opening Day. It was originally reported March 6 that Nimmo was dealing with a sore right knee.

Brandon Nimmo is out of the Mets’ lineup again on Thursday, but the team received some encouraging news. An MRI revealed just inflammation in his right knee with no structural damage, Tim Healey of Newsday reported. Nimmo said he’s waiting for “the last 10%” of the soreness to subside before hopefully returning to the lineup in the coming days. Carlos Mendoza reiterated that he isn’t concerned about the issue.

“Talking to him, if this were the regular season, he would be playing,” Mendoza said. “There’s no reason to rush it.”

Nimmo made his Grapefruit League debut last Friday, but hasn’t played since. He said earlier this week that he expected to be back in the lineup after the team’s off day on Wednesday. Nimmo dealt with plantar fasciitis for most of the 2024 season, and said he was running at about “91%” entering spring training. He is once again expected to man left field, with Jose Siri and Tyrone Taylor holding down center field and Juan Soto playing right field.
