After a 4-2 loss to the Marlins on Tuesday night in their first game back in the United States, the Mets looked to get back in the win column on Wednesday night as the two clubs continued their three-game series in New York with game two.

The Mets and Marlins both came out swinging, but the Mets swung hardest. The Mets defeated the Marlins 10-4 on Wednesday night behind four hits from Tyrone Taylor and home runs from Harrison Bader, Francisco Lindor and Starling Marte.

Left-handed pitcher Braxton Garrett (2-1, 6.07 ERA coming into Wednesday’s matchup) was on the mound for the visiting Marlins to start the game against the Mets’ lefty, David Peterson (1-0, 3.45 ERA coming into the night).

Peterson’s last outing was June 4 against the Nationals. In 6 2/3 innings, he struck out two and was credited with his first win of the season.

Tyrone Taylor was a big contributor, going 4-for-5 on the night with a run scored. Harrison Bader had two hits and two RBIs, along with Starling Marte. Francisco Alvarez also had two RBIs on one hit.

After a one, two, three inning for Peterson in the first, the Mets’ offense supported their starter and took an early lead. After a lead-off double by Francisco Lindor, Harrison Bader hit a long two-run home run to left-center to give the Mets the early lead.

Miami answered back and tied the game in the top of the second. Back-to-back singles put two on for the Marlins and two batters later, with one out, Dane Myers doubled to score Jake Burger to put them on the board. He was followed by an RBI single by Emmanuel Rivera that tied the game.

Taylor led things off with a single in the second before Mark Vientos reached on a fielding error, and Francisco Alvarez hit an RBI single that scored Taylor to take the lead and keep two runners aboard. Jeff McNeil reached on a fielding error that scored another run and extended the Mets’ lead to 4-2. Two batters later, J.D. Martinez joined the RBI frenzie with a single that scored McNeil and gave the Mets a 5-2 lead over Miami.

After a one-out double by Otto Lopez in the fifth, Bryan De La Cruz hit an RBI double that scored Lopez and made it a 5-3 game. Two batters later, with two on, Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit an RBI single to make it a 5-4 game as the Marlins continued to inch closer.

Once again, the Mets put another run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth to keep their distance over the Marlins on a Starling Marte two-out solo home run that made it a 6-4 game.

The Mets went to their bullpen in the top of the sixth as Peterson exited with the lead. They brought in Dedniel Núñez to take over.

Peterson’s final line: 5.0 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 4.32 ERA

The Mets continued to pour the runs on in the seventh. Pete Alonso picked up his first hit of the day with one out. Two batters later, with two on, Taylor collected his fourth hit of the day. Vientos hit an RBI single that scored Alonso and then Alvarez then grounded into a force out to bring across a second run in the inning to make it an 8-4 Mets lead.

Lindor led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a home run to make it a 9-4 Mets. Marte came up four batters later with a runner on to hit an RBI single, making it a 10-4 game as he collected his second RBI of the day.

The Mets shut the Marlins down in the ninth to claim the 10-4 win on 14 hits.

Peterson (2-0, 4.32 ERA) was credited with the Mets’ win, while Garrett (2-2, 6.10 ERA) was credited with the Miami loss.
