According to SNY‘s Andy Martino, Epper is expected to become the Mets’ general manager.
Joel Sherman noted that the contract details are “nearing the finish line,” and he also brought up Eppler’s close relationship with Brewers executive David Stearns.
The way it was described to me is that Billy Eppler is nearing the finish line to become the #Mets GM. And here is 1 thing to keep in mind about the 2,000 pound gorilla in the room: 1 on of Eppler’s best friends in the game is David Stearns.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post provided some more context to the situation surrounding the Mets and Eppler with the following tweet:
Heard Billy Eppler was in NY to talk face-to-face with Steve Cohen. Was offered the GM job. Heading home to California to decide whether to take the job or stay with his new venture with William Morris, which is expanding its baseball agent footprint.

It certainly sounds as if the ball is in Eppler’s court with regard to what happens next.

The Mets will offer Billy Eppler their general manager job, according to The Athletic‘s Ken Rosenthal. It should be noted that Eppler has not accepted the role as of yet.
Furthermore, MLB.com‘s Anthony DiComo reports that there is “no resolution expected tonight,” as Eppler likely has to sort out separating from his current job as an agent at WME, should he accept the job. (Eppler was hired at WME just two months ago, according to The Hollywood Reporter.)
Earlier in the day, MMO’s Mike Mayer reported the team still had interest in Eppler and they were cooling on former candidate Adam Cromie.
Eppler was the general manager of the Los Angeles Angels from 2015 to 2020, working under a cash-heavy owner in Arte Moreno. Before that, he worked in the Yankees organization under Brian Cashman for a decade.
The Mets started their front office search over six weeks ago, and more than 20 names passed through the rumor mill. As of last week, team president Sandy Alderson said at this point, they were looking for a GM, and it seems they’ve settled on their man.
Britt Ghiroli of The Athletic reports that this is the first formal offer the Mets have made to someone to lead their front office. Discussion with the likes of Billy Beane, Theo Epstein and more than a dozen more never culminated in an official offer.
