Good morning, Mets fans!
The Mets had their Tuesday night game against the Nationals suspended due to rain, and they will finish it Wednesday starting at 4:10 p.m.
New York is trailing 3-1.
The game was suspended in the top of the second with catcher Riley Adams on first and the pitcher spot due up. Watch out for the Nationals pulling a double-switch at the restart of the game, perhaps pinch-hitting a different catcher to start the game and having the pitcher spot come up eighth the rest of the first game.
Wednesday’s regularly scheduled game will happened after Game 1. It will only be seven innings, though, because of Major League Baseball’s doubleheader rule during the COVID-19 era.
Luis Rojas said Drew Smith will likely follow Carrasco in the restart, and Marcus Stroman will start Game 2.
Now let’s get into the morning briefing.
Latest Mets News
Zack Scott held a press conference after the Mets returned home from a seven-game road trip. He covered topics like:
- The offense’s poor performance this season, noting he thinks the team has played “mediocre” for most of the season but “unacceptably bad” recently.
- The soft tissue injuries the Mets have faced all year, which Scott largely chalked up to “compliance issues” with some players not following the performance staff’s plan for them.
- Jacob deGrom, who will have an MRI soon, but Scott doesn’t know the date yet.
- Noah Syndergaard‘s role may be in relief when he returns from Tommy John surgery, hopefully in early September.
- Francisco Lindor, who is still week-to-week but progressing well.
Javier Báez was allegedly available off the bench during Tuesday night’s game (had it continued) after injuring his hip and back area on a swing Sunday. Luis Rojas said Báez is feeling the pain more in his back but he feels much better. He’s still day-to-day, though he may be able to start one of the games Wednesday.
The Mets released pitchers Tom Windle and A.J. Schugel from their Triple-A Syracuse roster, according to MMO‘s Mike Mayer.
This isn’t quite baseball news, but Tim Britton interviewed the woman who became a meme last weekend. Honestly, it could’ve been any of us.
Thank you @TimBritton & @TheAthletic for interviewing me for this story, this is awesome! https://t.co/XZNSebvsCy

The Phillies put Rhys Hoskins on the 10-day injured list with a groin injury, which forced him to miss the weekend series with the Mets.
The A’s recalled A.J. Puk (Go Gators), their top pitching prospect, before Tuesday’s game. He’ll likely be used out of the bullpen the remainder of the year.

Happy 30th birthday to Wilfredo Tovar, who returned to the Mets organization this season. He’s had 12 plate appearances at the major-league level in 2021, but he’s spent a majority of the year in Syracuse, where he’s slashing .276/.366/.379/.744.
And, apologies to the squeamish, but this devastating collision between Carlos Beltran and Mike Cameron happened 16 years ago today on August 11.
