The Mets sent Carlos Carrasco to the hill Tuesday night against the Nationals. Before the game was suspended until tomorrow due to rain Carrasco tossed one inning in Queens. He surrendered three runs to a depleted Washington team on a three-run-home-run by Juan Soto.

Carrasco allowed hits to the first three batters of the night. The struggling Victor Robles led off with a single to left field. Alcides Escobar followed up with a bunt single to third, and Soto punished the veteran with a 396 foot shot to left center. Carrasco got Josh Bell to ground out to first for the first out and walked Yadiel Herandez to put runners on again with one out. Carter Kieboom flew out and Luis Garcia grounded out to end the inning.

With the rain pouring down, Carrasco ended up back on the mound in the top of the second. Riley Adams singled to start the inning with the umpires deciding to delay the game during pitcher Paolo Espino‘s at-bat.

In three starts since coming off of the injured list, has given up 12 hits, two walks, nine strikeouts, and given up six earned runs across 9.1 innings.

“Having thrown 33 pitches and enduring a high-leverage first-inning should set up Carlos Carrasco to be able to make his next start,” Luis Rojas said.

The suspended game will resume, without Carrasco, at 4:10 p.m. No starter has been announced. Marcus Stroman will start Game 2.
