Mets closer Edwin Díaz has been placed on the paternity list ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Marlins.
Right-hander Jake Reed, who was recently claimed by the Mets off waivers from the Rays, has been recalled from Syracuse.
Reed appeared in six games for the Dodgers in 2021. He compiled a 3.38 ERA, five strikeouts, and one walk in 5 1/3 innings. In 18 minor league games, Reed has struggled. He has a 5.24 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings.
Reed was claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Rays on July 25. The Mets claimed the 28-year-old just over a week later on August 2.
Manager Luis Rojas did not name a reliever that will take over Diaz’s role in the interim. The earliest Diaz could rejoin the team is Friday, said Rojas.
