Just one day after he was placed on the COVID-19 injured list, New York Mets reliever Miguel Castro has been activated and rejoined the team for Tuesday night’s game against the Miami Marlins.

Mets manager Luis Rojas said postgame Monday night that Castro showed some symptoms on Monday morning, and after alerting team trainers he was placed in isolation and got tested.

His test results officially came back negative on Tuesday morning, and he was longer showing any symptoms today. Rojas said Castro played catch this afternoon, and he should be good to pitch out of the bullpen tonight if needed.

In a corresponding roster move, the Mets have optioned right-hander Geoff Hartlieb back to Triple-A Syracuse. Hartlieb struggled in his one outing since being recalled prior to Sunday’s game.

He allowed three runs on two hits while walking three over 1.1 innings of work in the 7-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. On the season, he now has a 10.29 ERA, 2.29 WHIP, and nine walks over seven innings pitched with the Mets and Pirates.

In more good news on the injury front, right-hander Robert Gsellman is in a really good spot on his road back to the team. Rojas said his torn right lat had completely healed, and Gsellman should begin throwing soon.

With their bullpen as taxed as it is, the Mets could certainly use an innings-eater type like Gsellman back as soon as possible.
