According to Tim Healey of Newsday, Mets infielder Luis Guillorme will begin a rehab assignment on Thursday night with the Triple-A Syracuse Mets.

Guillorme landed on the injured list the end of April with a right oblique strain. At the time, the left-handed hitter was slashing 333/.478/.333 in 23 plate appearances.

The 26-year-old is coming off a career-year in 2020 when he posted a 140 OPS+ in 29 games for the Mets.

Guillorme’s potential return could be very timely after Jonathan Villar left the Mets Wednesday night win with a tight right hamstring. Villar has been starting at third base every day following the injury to Guillorme and J.D. Davis.

Guillorme has played in 10 games at third in 2021.
