Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets celebrated former manager Terry Collins‘ birthday in style with a doubleheader sweep (and series win!) against the Colorado Rockies. Marcus Stroman was electric in Game 1, allowing just three hits in six shutout innings, and Joey Lucchesi set the Mets up for success in Game 2, tossing 3 2/3 frames of shutout ball as the good guys pulled it out in yet another bullpen game. José Peraza was the talk of the town, driving in Game 1’s only run with a solo shot to left and bringing home another two in the nightcap.

The Amazin’s (24-20) look to continue their latest miraculous streak against the similarly hobbled Atlanta Braves (24-25), who sit comfortably in second place on the NL East leaderboard.

Despite continued excellence in the field, time and patience are running out at the plate for Francisco Lindor. For the Daily News, Deesha Thoshar asks the question we’ve all been quietly asking: how much longer should we wait for Lindor’s cold streak to thaw?

Tomas Nido continued his stellar month of May, boasting a line of .300/.349/.575  heading into the weekend series against Atlanta. A leader of the aptly-named Bench Mob, Nido has been the Mets’ most reliable bat in the wake of a litany of injuries, doing more than his part to keep his team at the top of the NL East.

According to Tim Healey of Newsday, Lindor’s throwing error against the Marlins on Sunday has been changed to a missed-catch error on Jordan Yamamoto, pouring some added salt in the wound left by the shoulder injury that relegated him to the 60-day IL.

A vocally frustrated J.D. Davis experienced another setback in his rehab with continued discomfort in his hand, though Patrick Glynn says that Davis (who is “dying of boredom”) hopes to take some swings soon. Davis spent the day reviewing scouting reports.

Longtime Mets prospect Thomas Szapucki will be joining the Major League team as the roster’s 27th man. The move follows a recent setback in Noah Syndergaard‘s own battle back from injury as the team looks to add some much-needed depth to the rotation.

Thankfully, the Mets will get some of that length back with the return of Taijuan Walker. Mets manager Luis Rojas said that Walker is slated to take the mound tonight for the series opener against Atlanta. Walker has been one of the most reliable members of the Mets rotation, pitching his way to a 3-1 record with 41 K’s and a 2.05 ERA in 8 starts.

The Boston Red Sox optioned outfielder Franchy Cordero to the Triple-A affiliate Worcester Red Sox. Cordero has had a rough start to the season, slashing .179/.228/.274 in 34 games for Boston in 2021.

Per Lindsey Adler, Yankees skipper Aaron Boone predicts that Aaron Hicks will be sidelined for the rest of the season due to surgery on his wrist. Hicks, 31, has been out of action since May 12. According to Bryan Hoch, Hicks has battled chronic wrist injuries for the past few years, and this latest setback is not currently attributed to any particular plate appearance or moment in the field.

The Seattle Mariners selected the contract of former Mets lefty Hector Santiago, designating right-hander Sam Delaplane for assignment. The team also recalled another familiar name in Daniel Zamora.

And just for fun…

Cubs shortstop Javy Báez put on a baserunning clinic against a hapless Pittsburgh Pirates infield. On what should have been a routine play to end the inning, Pirates first baseman Will Craig opted to try and tag Báez out on the basepath instead of simply going for the force play. What ensued was…well, see for yourself.

2006: Orlando Hernandez came away with a win in his Mets debut. Though his final line may have been eye-catching for the wrong reasons (notably 101 pitches over 5 innings), El Duque showed he still had some gas left in the tank after his fantastic tenure a borough away. Also noteworthy: this game marked the start of José Valentín‘s turn as the Mets’ everyday second baseman, replacing Kaz Matsui.
