Mets fans, we finally have some more good news to report on the injury-front!

While speaking with reporters following Thursday afternoon’s doubleheader sweep of the Colorado Rockies, New York Mets manager Luis Rojas said Taijuan Walker is expected to return from the injured list and start Friday night’s game against the Atlanta Braves.

Walker felt good to go after throwing a light bullpen session early Thursday at Citi Field, and he is set to rejoin the big league rotation when first eligible.

The right-hander left his start last Monday against the Braves after just three innings due to left side tightness. Walker went for an MRI following the outing, which came back clean, but the team decided to play things safe and place him on the injured list.

Thankfully the Mets finally dodged a bullet here, as Walker has been a stellar addition to the rotation this season. Over his first eight starts, he has pitched to a 2.05 ERA, 0.41 WHIP, and has struck out 41 batters in 44 innings of work.

The Mets will have to make a corresponding roster move to activate Walker, and Rojas said they will announce that pregame tomorrow night. The rotation for the weekend series with the Braves now lines up as follows; Walker, David Peterson, Jacob deGrom.
