While speaking with the media pregame on Tuesday evening, New York Mets manager Luis Rojas provided a brief update on the status of the Mets’ banged up position players currently residing on the injured list.

Rojas indicated that outfielder Brandon Nimmo, who is suffering from a left index finger bruise, has been progressing really well and is the closest to a return to the big league club.

Nimmo has been taking full swings off both live arms and the velocity machine. Rojas said that the lefty came in on the off-day yesterday and took a ton of swings, and he could be looking at a return to the club as soon as this weekend’s series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

J.D. Davis is taking a little more time with his recovery from his left hand sprain. The slugger is also progressing nicely, but is a bit behind Nimmo on his road back at the moment. It sounds as if the slugger will not return to the club when he is first eligible to come off the IL on Wednesday.

Davis is likely going to need a few more days, and Rojas says the next step for him is to face live pitching and some velocity machines to test some of the vibrations of the contact.

And lastly, as reported last week Luis Guillorme is not progressing as well as the team has hoped. The Mets still do not expect to have the slick-handed infielder back from the IL when he is first eligible to return later this week.

Rojas says that Guillorme has been fielding and doing some drills with third base coach Gary DiSarcina, but it is still swinging the bat and the rotational movement that is causing him some in trouble as he recovers from an oblique strain.

Thankfully for the Mets, both Jonathan Villar and Kevin Pillar have stepped up very nicely in the absence of these three key pieces.
