– UPDATE  –

The Mets have received some good news on this Tuesday evening, as the team announced that Jacob deGrom’s MRI results revealed only inflammation in his right lat.

The right-hander will refrain from throwing the next few days, but the team is not placing him on the injured list.

The Mets have still made a move for a healthy arm for tonight’s ballgame, as expected, righty Jordan Yamamoto has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse and reliever Sean Reid-Foley has been optioned to make room for him.

Jacob deGrom has been scratched from his start tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals due to right side tightness, according to multiple reports.

MiLB.com‘s Michael Avallone was the first to report deGrom was missing his start. He also noted Jordan Yamamoto, who was scheduled to start Syracuse’s Triple-A season opener.

Miguel Castro apparently will start the game, according to SNY‘s Steve Gelbs, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Yamamoto follow up Castro to give Yamamoto’s flight time to get to St. Louis and get the righty warmed up to pitch.

Avallone also was the first to report deGrom is missing the start due to an issue with his lat muscle, and Jon Heyman backed up that reporting saying deGrom has side tightness.

Mayer also reports that the Mets feel the lat issue “is minor and could make a start a soon without an IL stint.” That would be the best news to Mets fans’ ears.

DeGrom is no stranger to missing starts in the regular season, especially early in the year. He had brief elbow issues in 2018 and 2019 where he missed starts, and a small neck issue caused him to miss a start a couple weeks into the 2020 season.

Jacob deGrom, who just won National League Pitcher of the Month, has a 2-2 record with a ridiculous 0.51 ERA, 0.57 WHIP and 59 strikeouts in 35 innings.
