MLB.com released their first set of Power Rankings for the 2021 season, and the Mets came in at number five just behind the Atlanta Braves.
Of the Mets, MLB.com says “What’s different this year than the past, when expectations for the Mets started high but ended with a thud? New York had a legitimately productive offseason and fortified its roster with winners.”
The Mets acquired Francisco Lindor, Carlos Carrasco, James McCann, Trevor May, Taijuan Walker, and many others this offseason.
While they still believe that the Braves will win the National League East, they are “just as certain this will be a race that will be undecided heading into the final stretch. Regardless of whether it’s Braves-Mets or Mets-Braves, it’s guaranteed to be a fun run to October.”
The article ranks the Dodgers, Padres, and Yankees as the top three teams in baseball in that order. Among the other National League East teams, the Nationals rank 14th, the Phillies 18th, and the Marlins 21st.
