What’s the end of the year without a countdown? As we channel our inner Dick Clark (or some may argue David Letterman with this top 10 list) we take a look at 10 of the best Mets stories from 2020. As 2020 was quite the unprecedented year, you may be thinking to yourself, “were there even any stories besides Steve Cohen becoming Mets owner that were even good?” And the answer to that is, “yes!” there were.

Here’s our top 10 list from 2020. What’s on your list?

The Best

10. Keith Hernandez Signs Three Year Deal With SNY

Can you imagine the SNY booth without hearing the deep sigh of Keith Hernandez? Can you especially not imagine having Keith’s antics during the weirdly different 2020 baseball season? How much worse it would have been without our beloved announcer.

9. Piazza Honored With new Address in PSL

Our Hall of Famer’s number was retired by the Mets in 2016, but in 2020 the address of the Mets Spring Training home to 31 Piazza Drive in his honor.

8. Michael Conforto Steps Up

Conforto pushed himself closer to a potential C on the uniform with a big year on and off the field. He had a monster 156 OPS+, made sure he was their for Dom Smith when he needed it, and reached out to McCann after he signed.

7. Baseball Came Back!

There were moments in 2020 when we were not sure if baseball would return — but it did!

6. Needed Signings

The 2020 offseason has already seen some big name (and necessary) signings with James McCann at catcher and Trevor May in the bullpen.

5. David Peterson and Andres Giménez Emerge

Giménez made quite the name for himself in his debut season, starting 29 games out of the 60. He even had us asking the question of what would happen to Amed Rosario now that we’ve seen how great Gimenez is defensively.

4. Dominic Smith’s Breakout Season

Prior to the 2020 season, it was not entirely sure as to where Dominic Smith would fit, but man did he show us all wrong. These four stats from his 2020 season tell all.

3. Goodbye Brodie Van Wagenen, Hello Jared Porter

Someone with the proper experience is the Mets new GM? Sounds like something they should have had for years…

2. Sandy Alderson Is Back!

This was both great news in terms of Alderson being healthy enough to be back and that he is back with the team he did so much for in the past. In case you forgot, the Mets won the 2015 pennant under his management. Oh, and during his time with the Mets, they drafted players such as Michael Conforto, Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo, and Dominic Smith

1.Steve Cohen is the New Owner

A new era has happened for Mets fans, one that we are already seeing the positives from. No longer being run by the Wilpons was gift enough, but to now be run by an actual Mets fan who is not afraid to spend money? What a silver lining to this crappy year.

The Worst

(I am sure you don’t want any detail of remembrance to these, but these stories all happened in 2020, too)

  1. Mets & Carlos Beltran Mutually Agree To Part Ways
  2. The Wild Boar Injury Reveal of Yoenis Cespedes
  3. Steve Cohen & Wilpons Comment on Failed Purchase of Mets
  4. Cespedes Not At Ballpark, Mets Unable To Contact Him
  5. Mourning the Loss of Tom Seaver
  6. Beloved Sports Photographer Anthony Causi Dies From COVID
