Another free agent starting pitcher is off the market, as Mike Minor has agreed to a two-year contract to return to the Kansas City Royals. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal was the first to report the signing, which is still pending a physical.

After spending the first five years of his career with the Atlanta Braves, Minor signed a two-year deal with the Kansas City Royals back in 2016, when he was recovering from a shoulder injury.

The left-hander missed the entirety of the 2016 season, but returned in 2017 and pitched to a 2.55 ERA across 77 2/3 innings out of Kansas City’s bullpen.

Minor has spent parts of the last three seasons with the Texas Rangers, where he made 67 starts and pitched to a 4.00 ERA. The 32-year-old was dealt to the Oakland Athletics at the trade deadline this season. Between his stints with the two teams, Minor pitched to a 5.56 ERA in 2020.

A few weeks ago, we reported that the Mets had showed interest in Minor, along with fellow free agent starting pitchers Charlie Morton and Corey Kluber.

Kluber is the last of the three still available, as Morton signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Atlanta Braves last week.
