Former Mets fan favorite Wilmer Flores is now a free agent after the Arizona Diamondbacks declined his $6 million option for 2020 according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
Flores, 28, hit .317/.361/.487 with 18 doubles, nine home runs, 37 RBIs, and 120 wRC+ in 89 games for the D-Backs in 2019. He played 64 games at second base and 16 games at first base.
The right-handed hitter missed almost two months of the season with a right-foot contusion he suffered after getting hit by a pitch.
Flores was signed by the Mets as a 16-year-old back in 2007 and he hit .262/.303/.424 for them over six seasons. He also owns the Mets franchise record for walk-off RBIs with 10.
Other players to have their options declined and become free agents on Thursday include LHP T.J. McFarland, RHP Pat Neshek, RHP Adam Warren, and 1B/DH Edwin Encarnacion.
